CLIVAR SSG steers the activities of the CLIVAR project and all its sub-structures, with support from the ICPO including the ICMPO. ICMPO has the responsibility to coordinate the hosting of SSG sessions held in India.

The 23rd session of CLIVAR SSG was hosted by IITM, Pune, India in 2017, under the coordination of ICMPO.

  • CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel

The CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel coordinates monsoons research between GEWEX and CLIVAR, particularly in emphasizing the role of convection and land surface in the monsoons, as well as ocean-atmosphere interactions.

The Monsoons Panel has three regional working groups focusing on Asian-Australian Monsoons, African Monsoons and American Monsoons.

  • Indian Ocean Region Panel

The CLIVAR/Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission Global Ocean Observing System (IOC-GOOS) Indian Ocean Region Panel provides scientific and technical oversight for implementation of the sustained ocean observing system for the Indian Ocean and coordinates research on the role of the Indian Ocean in the climate system.

The International CLIVAR Monsoon Project Office (ICMPO), hosted by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, is India's contribution to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), particularly its core project CLIVAR. ICMPO functions as one of the two nodes of the International CLIVAR Project Office; the other node is the International CLIVAR Global Project Office (ICGPO) hosted by the First Institute of Oceanography (FIO), Qingdao, China.
